"Sustainable Natural Rubber Guide" officially launched in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

On October 23, 2017, at the "10th Annual Meeting of the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries" held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Minmetals and Chemicals officially released the "Guidelines for Sustainable Natural Rubber". The "Guide" is an important achievement under the framework of Sino-British inter-governmental sustainable development cooperation. It took 4 years to complete. It aims to guide natural rubber investment, planting and operation enterprises to identify, prevent and manage economic problems encountered in the process of operation. , social and environmental risks, and improve sustainable governance. The "Guide" is the first comprehensive and risk-based guide in the global natural rubber field, filling the blank of natural rubber planting and processing without sustainable development standards.
 
As the most influential conference in the international natural rubber field, people from 19 countries who are engaged in rubber industry production, processing, trade and research are invited to participate. The debut of the "Guide" on this international platform aroused strong repercussions from the conference, and was highly recognized and actively supported by all participants.
The release of the Guide consists of three parts: introduction, book donation ceremony, and guest speeches. A grand book-donating ceremony was held at the press conference. Liu Zhonghui, Vice President of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Minmetals and Chemicals, Zhang Junzuo, Director of Sino-British Cooperation International Forestry Investment and Trade Project, A. Ajith Kumar, Chairman of International Association of Natural Rubber Producers and Secretary Nguyen Ngoc Bich As a book-donating guest, Mr. Chang is a guest from Hainan Natural Rubber Industry Group Co., Ltd., Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, Yunnan Agricultural Reclamation Group, Vietnam Rubber Group, Vietnam Rubber Association, Malaysian Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, Malaysian Rubber Products Industry Association, and International Rubber Research. Books from representatives of the organization and Global Witness. The international institutions and non-governmental organizations that received the donated books fully recognized the Guidelines and expected the Guidelines to play an important role in promoting the sustainable development of natural rubber. After the press conference, we received positive feedback from upstream and downstream enterprises and stakeholders in the natural rubber supply chain. Plantation and processing enterprises in natural rubber producing countries, the world's leading tire manufacturers, and relevant national rubber associations and NGOs all expressed their opinions. expressed strong interest in the follow-up work of the Guidelines and looked forward to cooperation.
 
In order to effectively promote the implementation of the "Guide", the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Minmetals and Chemicals is organizing experts to develop the "Guide" operation manual and evaluation tools, which will provide enterprises, rubber plantations and small farmers with "Guide" operation methods and capacity building training. At the same time, it will also work with upstream and downstream enterprises in the natural rubber supply chain to actively promote responsible natural rubber supply chain management, and strive to achieve sustainable development of the natural rubber industry.
