China National Textile And Apparel Council and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) held a Memorandum of Understanding renewal ceremony in Beijing on July 1, 2022. Yan Yan, Director of the Social Responsibility Office of China National Textile And Apparel Council; and Jochen Weikert, field coordinator of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), exchanged the Memorandum of Understanding renewal Agreement on the spot as representatives of both sides and conducted in-depth communication and exchanges on the next step of cooperation.
Reviewing the cooperation between China National Textile and Apparel Council and GIZ in the past six years, the two sides have carried out a series of fruitful cooperation in promoting the sustainable development of China's textile and garment industry overseas, as well as building responsible regional and global supply chains, including the development and implementation of the Guidelines for Responsible Overseas Investment in China's textile and Garment Industry for overseas Chinese textile and garment enterprises; The establishment of the first Asian Regional Sustainable Textile Network (STAR Network) in collaboration with textile industry associations in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar and Pakistan; Conduct research and training for Chinese investors in Southeast Asian countries; Promoting Chinese investors to improve environmental, social and Labour standards in Ethiopia's textile sector; Bringing together 15 industry organizations from 11 countries to advance the Sustainable Terms of Trade Initiative (STTI) in global supply chains; And in 2020-2021, we will cooperate to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on the operating conditions and social responsibilities of overseas Chinese-funded textile and garment enterprises. These projects have had a profound positive impact at the industry, regional, and global levels, and some projects (such as STAR and STTI) have become representative initiatives of China National Textile And Apparel Council on the global industry platform.

The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation opens the third round of in-depth cooperation between China National Textile And Apparel Council and GIZ. According to the agreement, the two parties will, based on their respective resource advantages, unite stakeholders to promote the global implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promote gender equality in the textile and garment industry, explore various sustainabilities-related themes in Labour, society and the environment, strengthen synergies and complementarities between the two sides, and explore the establishment of a tripartite development cooperation model between China, Germany and third beneficiary countries. In addition, the two sides, taking the six goals including operation under the framework of the tripartite project as a starting point and focusing on China and overseas, jointly carry out capacity enhancement-related initiatives from different directions and dimensions of sustainable development to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the textile and garment industry and realize the United Nations Sustainable Goals.
