Chemicals Stewardship Early Champion Pilot Middle-Term Workshop Convened

ZDHC / CNTAC “Chemicals Stewardship Roadmap 2020” Early Champion Pilot Middle-Term Workshop was successfully convened in Mizuda Printing & Dyeing Group Co., Ltd., Huzhou city, Zhejiang Province on February 21-22, 2017.

This workshop was co-hosted by China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC) and Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Foundation. Sponsored by Mizuda Printing & Dyeing Group Co., Ltd., representatives from 7 Early Champion Pilot Mills (Pacific (Panyu) Textile Limited, Fujian Fengzhu Textile Science & Technology Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huafu Top Dyed Melange Yarn Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Mizuda Printing & Dyeing Group Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Xinsheng Printing & Dyeing Co., Ltd., Chanzhou Lingtai, Zhejiang Anshun Pettechs Fibre Co,Ltd., as well as Guangdong Esquel Textile Co., Ltd., Shandong Lu Thai Textile Co., Ltd.), and experts from brands such as Nike,PUMA,H&M,Levis,Gap,Lining,Inditex,Esprit, third party testing experts from SGS, BV, CTI, TÜV Rheinland, ZAIQ, who were joined by 40 strong representatives from chemicals suppliers co-attended the workshop.

Ms. Yan Yan, Director of CNTAC Social Responsibility Office and Deputy Director of China Textile Information Center (CTIC) attended the workshop.
 
The workshop began with a respective progress report on the Early Champion Pilot Program by Mr. Hu Kehua, Deputy Director of CNTAC Social Responsibility Office and Ms. Lin Li, Director of ZDHC Foundation Asia Region, followed by a further proposed plan of the Program in 2017.

This workshop was as an internal communication within the Early Champion Pilot Mills. Mr. Ophelia Yao from Inditex and Ms. Ryan Li from Lining shared their experiences with top 10 issues and solutions concerning the building of chemicals management system and chemicals management in the textile industry. They also initiated active discussions with the participating enterprise representatives and the third party attendees.

Ms. Tina Wu from Nike shared her experience and held discussions with participants in ZDHC waste water guideline of the Early Champion Pilot Mills, waste water test and source analysis. She assisted pilot enterprises in comparing the test results with all regulations in WWG, and shared her analysis and summarization over possible sources of pollutants. Expert representatives from the third party testing bodies and chemical businesses also shared their experiences with they did at the workshop.

Doctor Andy Chen from Nike introduced Chemical Gateway with its registration and use and relevant functions.

Mr. Wu Shaoming from Hangzhou Xinsheng Printing & Dyeing Co., Ltd., an Early Champion Pilot Mill took an active role in the discussion and experience-sharing during the workshop. He offered his views on the possible difficulties that might be encountered on the way to fulfil and realize the goal set for Chemicals Stewardship Roadmap initiative.

Mr. Lin Jieyi from Everlight Chemical, a chemicals business, contributed to the workshop by introducing his experience in how to use Chemical Gateway as a chemicals supplier.

Ms. Steven Han from BV, a third part testing body, participated in the discussion onsite and shared management and source-tracing process on the whole textile supply chain from another angle.

Mr. Hu Kehua briefed the 40 strong chemical businesses present at the workshop the CiE system, a chemicals management platform developed by CNTAC, and elaborated on the CiE system’s functions including different roles of chemicals suppliers, chemicals users, and brands, building of mutual relations of chemicals on the whole textile supply chain and chemicals process management, as well as creating list of chemicals.

During the two-day ZDHC / CNTAC “Chemicals Stewardship Roadmap 2020” Early Champion Pilot Middle-Term Workshop, attendees visited the textile waste water zero discharge project at Zhejiang Mizuda Printing & Dyeing Group Co., Ltd.
 
The Early Champion Pilot Middle-Term Workshop was not only an internal exchange meeting within the Early Champion Pilots Mills, but more of a good opportunity for all stakeholders on the textile supply chain to co-participate in experience-sharing and communicational discussions. The ZDHC / CNTAC “Chemicals Stewardship Roadmap 2020” is engaging all stakeholders on the whole textile supply chain to participate and will, from June to September 2017, work on chemicals management capacity building targeting at supply chain businesses as an effort to guide businesses and all parties to walk truly to the path of green supply chain. The above undertaking will be co-led by CNTAC Social Responsibility Office, ZDHC Foundation and Textile Sustainable Manufacturing Coalition (TexSMC) and will take place in main textile industry clusters in China.
